JackRabbits - Not a Sex Toy.

As usual we had a stand up time at Jack Rabbits in Jacksonville FL. There is a Panera down the street, which we feel is always the best way to start off a day.

Jackrabbits, Jacksonville FL

Rob invented a new game called Tape Throw.. or Throw the tape or something. He and Sebastian spent a fair amount of time throwing a roll of yellow gaff tape back and forth. I guess I didn't understand the appeal, but they did it for long enough that they were both sore afterwards and Rob hasn't stopped talking about it since.

(Allen is laughing in this pic because Sebastian and Rob are really stoked about Tape Throw)

Pool Shark

Also, there is a pool table at Jackrabbits.. so Sebastian got plenty of games of pool in while he could, and we all learned about how people always call thinking the club is some sort of sex club, but its not.. Just a super rad bar.

The only thing to watch out for when you're at Jackrabbits are the brutal signs... you'd better keep yourself in check or you'll be crotch kicked. No one wants that.

We escaped this unscathed Speakers are taken very seriously.

Massive Tour Recap

Hey Friends -

We've been out for the last few weeks with some killer new pals of ours called Play Radio Play and You, Me, and Everyone we know. We've hit the NE, the South, and Now we're in FL headed west. It is hot and muggy and horrible here but we've been having an amazing time so far in Pensacola, Jacksonville, and Gainesville.

Here is a quick recap of other rad stuff that has happened to us in the last few weeks:

We had 2 days off in Philadelphia, PA and were lucky enough to have a chance to go check out Ben Folds at Drexel University. As you can imagine, Ben is a big influence for Sebastian so it was very cool to get to all see him together. We also found out that Drexel apparently has the same Mascot as Dropping Daylight does.. .The Dragon.

Dragons.

We've been seeing a lot of the restaurant Friendly's in our travels... We dont have them in Minnesota, and for some reason they make Rob and Seth really angry. Its kind of ironic.

Not so Friendly....

We also had a ton of crazy times in Greensboro, NC. Sebastian tried to steal some giant baseballs but they proved him to not be man enough. Our friend Jeff (You, Me, and Everyone We Know's videographer) did however prove himself to be man enough.. by wearing a Youth Medium tshirt. Highlight of the tour so far, if you ask me..

We have 2 more shows left in Florida (Orlando and Tallahassee) and then we head into AL, AR, TX and back up into the midwest towards home. Can't wait to see what else this tour has in store for us.... Come say Hi!

So Excited to be back on the Road!

We all had a very fun week off.. We enjoyed some nice weather, time with our families, birthday partying, tattoo sessions, and seeing Kids in the hall... but we are STOKED to be back on the road.

We left Sunday morning and drove 30 hours straight through to our show with From First To Last and Automatic Loveletter in South Burlington, VT. We drove through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York to get here. When we hit Michigan we checked out our GPS to see why we were in Michigan instead of Indiana, and realized that our GPS was trying to send us on a SHORTCUT through CANADA.

That was a bad idea, so we rerouted ourselves Via Cleveland and stopped at Als house for some 1am snacks. His Family knows how to party.

We play a few more dates with From First To Last, and starting next monday we'll be on our sick co-headlining tour with You, Me, and Everyone we Know, and Play Radio Play. We're totally looking forward to checking those guys out, and Looking forward to all of you coming to see us again and hang out. Check out the dates below and be sure to come rock out with us!

Rob's Birthday Surprise

Tuesday was Rob's birthday on tour, so we thought we'd try to set up as much of a surprise for him as we could on the road. We spent all night in Walmart trying to get the perfect decorations, cake, and all that.. and we thought we did a pretty good job.

Birthday Spread

Rob, however, had other plans for his birthday. Not content to be surprised, he had to be the one to Surprise US... check out the video:

This means war, Rob. This means war.

RV Maintenance Club of Nebraska

In our travels with our RV (who is about to turn 2 years old...our baby is growing up) we have realized that proper maintenance is the only way to keep it from falling apart/blowing up. On our way to Iowa via the Nebraska highway of wonderment and amazingness...we made a stop to do a full out tune up/clean up on our baby.

Lets play Mechanic!More Jacking Off

We changed one of the trailer tires, dumped our tanks, changed out a sewer hose, filled the RV with water, cleaned all the windows and vacuumed, and made an attempt at changing an RV tire. I say we made an attempt because after spending an hour trying to figure out where to jack up the RV...we finally got the sucker in the air...only to realize we weren't strong enough to twist the nuts on the tire cap...all that work for nothing...

These tires are too big

We eventually gave up and got back on the road to head to Des Moines, IA. We stopped at one point for Gas, and realized something about Nebraska. We didn't actually realize it, so much as we were informed of it by the gas station.

Nebraska

Eventually, though... we made it out alive. Des Moines, here we come...

We Love Denver

We've always thought Denver was a lot like Minneapolis...only with mountains instead of lakes. For that reason we've always been fond of hitting the mile high city on tours.

This time was especially awesome however as their radio station 93.3 has been playing the crap out of our song Apologies. We stopped by their station to do an interview/performance before heading up to Fort Collins for our show.

There were a bunch of radio winners in the control booth watching and clapping (inaudibly to us...we were on the other side of soundproof glass...it was kind of like playing a show for a room full of mimes).

More Radio Fun Times

The interview and performance is available to listen and download here on the KTCL website.

Denver Radio Performance @ KTCLRadio

We scooted up to Fort Collins which was a cool little college town...reminded us a bit of Lawrence, KS. The crowd was FEROCIOUS and our first date with From First to Last was a blast. We're going to be back in Denver for a big festival called the "Big Gig" on July 26th. Thats one to look forward to.

Fort Collins, CO

See you next time Colorado.

Kids in the Hall Update!

Newsflash... we misspoke when we said Rob met the Kids in the Hall. TURNS OUT he talked to them on the street a bit before our show and invited them.. and they CAME and checked out the show. They loved it and Kevin picked up a CD... thats pretty much a dream come true. We ended up kicking it with them for a good portion of the night, and Scott hung out with us on our RV for a while. We can't even begin to say how completely awesome that was.. we're all fans, so it was more or less a geek out fan night. Heres some pics....

Hollywood Jr.

Short post... our internet has been questionable.

We've been rocking out super hard in TX, LA, AR and OK this past week. Its been HOT HOT HOT and our Air conditioning is busted...We are sticky sweaty and smelly. All good S-words.

This week we learned that Allen has NO IDEA how to pump gas. Apparently he'd been hiding it from us for all this time.. but Seth walked out of the RV at a gas station the other day and totally busted him. Hey AL.. You're DOING IT WRONG!

DSC_0012.JPG

We're stoked to be in Texas right now, because one of our top favorite "regional" restaurants is here. When we're in the East.. we eat Dunkin Donuts. When we're in Cali.... we eat In'n'Out... when we're in Texas? TACO CABANA. We're planning on hitting it up something fierce after our show at Emo's in Austin tonight. Then its on to Phoenix for our very last show with our good Friends Saving Abel and the Sick Puppies. Sad times.. hopefully we'll have some cute group shots to share with y'all.

The other big thing going on this week is that APPARENTLY Texas is filled with Celebrities. At the Dallas House of Blues the other night Seth was hanging out at merch and looked up to find Kumar Pallana standing right in front of him.. he was STOKED. For those of you unfamiliar, Kumar Pallana has been in The Darjeeling Limited, The Terminal, The Royal Tennenbaums, and Rushmore. You've probably seen him and you don't even know it... Check him out:

And tonight in Austin while we were hanging out in the RV enjoying some Water Ice (Its like a snow cone kinda?) Rob came running back to the RV to tell us he'd just met the Kids in the Hall. Yeah.. The Kids in the Hall from like.. the 90s.

Its too bad we aren't making it out to CA on this tour.. at this rate we'd end up meeting Burt Reynolds or some shit.

Next up we're headed out for some dates with From First to Last....So be sure to check out those dates on the Myspace (And tons more.. we're never going home, its great!)

Send us some love, too.. We love pictures and stories and Hello's from all our friends. DDtourBlog@gmail.com

The week in DDLand

hey all! We know it has been a bit since we updated our Tour Blog. We have been having such a nice time thawing out our Frozen Minneapolis bods in Florida, that it was tough to pull us out of the sun.

Pretty Trees

Sebastian turned 25 on March 28th while we were in Florida. He started off our show saying" we are Dropping Daylight and it's my Birthday!". We decided to have a cook-out before the show and invite are good friends Sick Puppies and Saving Abel. We wanted to get in the mood for the party so we made some birthday hats out of our own posters.

Birthday Hats

After eating some good grillin and unbuttoning a few more buttons on our cut-offs it was time for the birthday song. I hope everyone at some point in there life can hear three bands that actually have good pitch sing the birthday song. Maybe it will be on our next record.

Yay!Birthday Cake

It was great to have the following two days off for some much needed rest and showering. We decided to find an RV park and do some more cooking out and storytelling around the empty pool. We love taking advantage of nice weather. Its about time we got our swim trunks and flip-flops out and put away our gloves, Long underwear and snow scrapers...at least for now.

Easter in the sun

We haven't been able to journal for the last couple days...we've had a crazy week with few moments to relax...

Last Wednesday we played Boston, MA at a little bar called "Great Scott"...we were impressed that the tour even fit in the club...but we made room and it ended up being a great show...and even better...we ate Dunkin' Donuts ALL DAY.

Thursday was Philly which turned into a CRAZY day. We drove through the night so we could head over to Drexel University and shoot a video for "Waiting through the Afternoon". Our concept was to do a video about making a video. We'll see how that turns out...but it was fun to make regardless.

Video Shoot

Video Storyboards

Last night we rocked Columbia, SC...and let me tell you...those people are insane...in the good way. The crowd had more energy than any other crowd so far on the tour...I got into the music a little too much and momentarily paralyzed my hand by crushing it against Al's ride cymbal...ahhhhhh the punishments we take for the Rock and Roll. Everyone was up all night for some partying and shenanigans.

St Pattys Day

Tonight is Myrtle Beach, SC for the warmest Easter we've ever had. ;-)

Burlington Vermont.. Our first tour injury.

Tonight we got to rock the HIgher Ground in Burlington, VT. What a fantastic night! The first sold-out crowd of the tour and every single one of you was amazing.

We had a lot of time to hang out back stage, and we got to eat some great food.. Teriyaki tofu and Garlic Salmon.. right up our Alley! We also got to check our emails and myspace pages.

Allen and Rob

During the show Rob jammed his finger into his bass really hard and tore his finger nail in half.. G.R.O.S.S. Seriously. We're going to have to go stock up tonight on emergency medical supplies so he doesn't bleed all over us. Beyond that..the crowd was awesomely rowdy and got their mosh on. We appreciate that so much.. it takes balls to mosh to a piano rock band.

Vermont!

We found this sign at the club, too.. and we thought we should pass it on. Important information.. might do you good someday.

A Friendly Reminder from Higher Ground..

So Much catching up to Do...

We had a great weekend in DDland. It was great being back in Cleveland for a few days and catching up with all of our friends and family, and eating AMAZING FOOD. We hit up our one of our favorite restaurants... The Melt. Gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches with almost any kind of cheese you want and amazing bread, and a huge beer selection. Thats always a big plus.

Saturday we were fortunate enough to dine like KINGS at Al's parents house. They grilled up some MEAN Lobster tails because Seth had never had fresh lobster before. Absolutely incredible. After the show, Allen got to go hang out at The Winchester... one of his old haunts for the night. They had something crazy like 6 members of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra there, and He met the singer for Megadeth. Strange combination?

7am Sunday morning we left our safe haven in Cleveland to trek up to Lancaster, PA. Its a rough drive at 7am when everyone went to bed at 6. Fortunately we made it in one piece and were able to rock some faces off at the Chameleon. There is an awesome burrito place across the street that we all wanted to hit up, but it was CLOSED! We can't wait to get back to play again for our new friends and fans and eat some burritos.

CLEVVEEEOOOOO!!!

Thursday was our long awaited return to the House of Blues in Cleveland. In addition to HOB being the best places in the country to rock out... Cleveland is our Drummer Al's Hometown, and also sometimes Sebastians. We all love it here!

House of Blues

We all got a lot of hanging out backstage done.. Allen adopted what he called his "Sexy" pose and held it for a full hour before doors opened, and Rob got his fill of streaming tv shows. I think he's fully caught up now on almost every episode of Felicity.

Allen Backstage
Robo BackstageSebastian Pre-Show

A lot of our awesome Cleveland fans came out to check out the show and the crowd RULED. We played some of our new songs "Kidnap Kings" and "Suburban Life" and played our top-secret cover that we've been whipping out sometimes on this tour.

FBI InvestigationAllenSethRob and his mighty SceptorSeth

Now we're looking forward to spending 2 rocking days off hitting up all our favorite spots in Cleveland... The Melt, The Winchester, The West End, Two Bucks, Merry Arts, and a bunch of other places we havent been able to hang in Months!
